THE Captain's Log #6 - Music, cutscenes, and stuff

4/30/2016

Hello lads! This is your captain! Such a long time since the last blog I wrote, so to keep up with the times I felt that it was imperative to show this place is not abandoned. Just missing updates... Sorry about that, maybe I focus more on things like RPGMaker.net since it has more traffic. But anyways!

Let's litter this thing with videos, shall we?
In this video you can see the changing music. Some maps will have two versions of the same song, and they will change smoothly. This is kind of inspired by the changing instruments in Monkey Island 2, but a little more humble. Please excuse framerate issues and frozen screens, I'm in need of a newer PC.
A short cutscene (that took me one entire day to do) where Hikari and Minuet have some time to chat before going to bed.
You know, it's kind of bothersome to chat while rushing trough the plains. So you need to make out the best of a peaceful time like this.

Some other stuff to talk about... Well, actually I finally put everything in a playlist in my channel, so it's easier to check new videos now. I'll see how do I embed it on the media section instead of putting each separately, it looks better and lags less. Here is a link.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcqvZijz3NaU_K7isCLmbE8_PkECy1doR

That's it for now, cheers! I'm still working on preparing a little surprise on some months. Dunno how many months, but instead of thinking how much time I have I better think about doing the most.

Salut!

THE Captain's Log #5 - Demo release and bug reporting

6/23/2015

Hello everyone! Today I'm happy to announce that Drekirökr has now a demo release! This release actually has some time already. You can find the download at the game page in GameJolt, since it's a nice place for hosting.

You can also find the demo at its game page in RMN.net, because it is a nice place for hosting TOO. Ha!
And finally, you can also opt to download the DrekiPatcher. Feel free to try it! It is hosted on Dropbox, since it lets me access stuff without the need of a personal domain. Thanks a bunch Droppy! (?).

This week has been invested on keeping track of the demo reception. Drekirökr has been posted on both Spanish and English communities. Mundo Maker, Universo Maker, also on different Spanish game-development Facebook groups. As for English speaking communities, it has been posted on RPGMaker.net, RPGMakerWeb (the official site), GameJolt and ChaosProject. Right now reception has been good. It has one hundred downloads already. I know there are games that make it much better on its release, but I feel support has been good.

Now, what's left? Aside from keep developing the game, because the demo covers a pretty small portion of the game, this week will be another release, a bugfix. The update will be available both as an update package and an updated full download. AND of course, the DrekiPatcher will be able to patch your game.

This update will be released this Saturday June 27th, 2015. I will try and solve ALL bugs I've been encountering after the release. Because these things always happen...

And that's all for now. Thanks for reading, see you next time!

THE Captain's Log #4 - Small preview

4/24/2015

Hello readers! Here is another update for Drekirökr. This time, it's a small progress preview/report video. This video includes a small battle against Vance Vredevelt, a character from the game. This battle is entirely optional, and will not have any effect over the story.

There will be more of these optional battles. They're treated like boss battles, so you gain no experience points but gain one whole Ability Point, which is useful for learning skills. On some instances maybe even give access to special items, but not all the time.

Things to note are that a lot of assets in this preview are either missing or unfinished, so expect things to change compared to the demo or final release.

Hello friends! This is me, telling you that I've updated the page.
There are two new wallpapers, a lot of new fanarts I've gathered around the places I frequent (thanks people :'D), though some of these is me asking them a drawing of my character in my style... Ahem!
There are also some updates at game info pages, like the characters, whose artwork I changed, and added another character too since I made his artwork.

And... yeah! That's it. Addings, changes, and stuff. Thanks! Here is a video by the way, a VLOG from 2015.

THE Captain's Log #2 - Long time already!

Captain says hello! It's a long time since the last time I wrote something here! But fear not (if you do), the project is still going.
Thing is, as happens pretty often in indie games, the time you have for developing is not exactly the one you would like to have. You need to juggle around with the spares, while doing personal life stuff, and getting bread to your table. And I'm alone, so I have to do home work, which is tiresome with a house this big... oh the agony! Nah, not really, but yeah, more work than, say, having an apartment.

Anyway, that's just life being like she is. We love she the way she is, don't we? Yes. We do. I still say, this web is not going to change that update rate, I mean, my time keeps being short, so developing the game is always priority to updating the site.

Moving on from that subject, what do I have to share? Let's see. First of all, active time battles are now implemented. I mimicked the way Chronno Trigger left you the option to pause the action when selecting commands. Or to remove waiting, making it completely active. I also implemented battle speed, as seen in the SNES Final Fantasy games. This overall leaves some space to the player to push the limits and customize aspects of gameplay to suit his difficulty needs. There is Easy/Medium/Hard modes too, whose change some aspects on enemy behaviour and some other numeric changes. All this, I hope, will give the player control over the game.

And don't get me wrong. I'm making sure the easiest possible difficulty combination is challenging.

There are some other small improvements here and there, but that's kind of the most relevant one. The one
that made me lose brain chunks by days because of code mess.

So, that is it for now. I'm working on artworks right now, adding some assets here and there, and stuff. I still hope to make a demo release someday this year
. The "definitive demo", that's what I call it. After that, will be years until the final release.

Write you later people.

EDIT: I forgot to
mention that there is a new game download at the Downloads section. At these months I've developed a new game, which was for a contest. Armored, a post-apocaliptic RPG, where the main idea was to use vanilla characters from the RPG Maker series (the ones that come with a default project), and make up a story around them. It was fun, and I did some tests with some mechanics, so... yeah.

THE Captain's Log #1 - Sailing on the internet! Hop aboard!

Aye aye sir!
Welcome people to the capt'n's Ship! We are proud to pronounce the words of "we are opening the ship to the world!". So, we (me all lonely) hope to see you another day by here.

Today is ship's inauguration, our opening I mean, this ship is VERY old. The ship has been sailing all these years, like 6 or so, then was cracked by a whale, and reconstructed almost entirely, except its soul, which remains intact and living.

Which are this ship's activities? You can wait for now, since all is being build up. We have grog for now! YARR! Grog for the best sailors matey! But later on, the main attraction will be the masterpiece (title given by me) known as Drekirökr, or Dusk of the Dragon in a kind-of-translation manner!

Drekirökr is an RPG being built with RPG Maker XP's help. I'm the capt'n, I'm the voice and I'm the arms and legs of it. But all is being made with love for humanity. No cost for you, only for me, hard work and manly odor is everywhere for that issue!

News to come, so stay tuned!
